Description
A coleção do herbário Capixaba (CAP) reúne um acervo de 9.800 exemplares de plantas (Briófitas, Licófitas e Samambaias, Gimnospermas e Angiospermas) desidratadas representativas da flora do sul do Espírito Santo, assim como de outras regiões do Brasil. No entanto, a principal missão do CAP é ser uma coleção representativa da flora da região do Caparaó. A região do Caparaó abrange oito municípios do Espírito Santo, alguns limítrofes ao Estado de Minas Gerais. Dentre as atribuições do herbário, figuram o desenvolvimento de atividades didáticas (aulas práticas), registro de materiais (coletados em atividades de pesquisa e ensino) e o oferecimento de atividades de extensão (atividades de divulgação científica), desenvolvidas por alunos de graduação e pós-graduação do Centro de Ciências Exatas, Naturais e da Saúde (CCENS) e do Centro de Ciências Agrárias e Engenharias (CCAE), da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Campus de Alegre).
