Description
O Herbário Prof. Jorge Pedro Pereira Carauta (HUNI) pertence à Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) e foi fundado em 1998 pela Profa. Dra. Claudia Petean Bove como intuito de ser um herbário destinado apenas para plantas aquáticas, mas seu enfoque foi mudando ao longo destes quase 25 anos de existência. Localizado no bairro da Urca, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, seu acervo é composto majoritariamente por exemplares da flora ficológica fluminense - com destaque para a família Dictyotaceae (Phaeophyceae) com mais de 1000 amostras coletadas ao longo do litoral brasileiro - e da vegetação de Mata Atlântica e ecossistemas associados, com destaque para as Coleções Restingas Fluminenses e Complexo do Pão de Açúcar. O HUNI ainda possui cerca de 800 amostras que marcam sua fundação e que compõem a Coleção de Plantas Aquáticas Vasculares Claudia Bove. O acervo atual é composto por cerca de 7.200 amostras, dividido em algas (57%), angiospermas (35%), briófitas (5%) e monilófitas, licófitas e fungos (3%). Atualmente, o HUNI está iniciando o processo de digitalização do seu acervo, tendo parte de sua coleção de briófitas já disponibilizada nas plataformas SpeciesLink e Reflora.
