With 1,161 plant specimens, the herbarium of the Federal University of Fronteira Sul (UFFS) – Realeza Campus is one of the most recent collections to join the online network of the INCT Virtual Herbarium of the Flora and Fungi of Brazil. The specimens were collected across 26 municipalities in the southwestern region of Paraná and are now freely and openly available on the virtual platform that hosts both national and international biological collections. The Herbário Real, a research project responsible for establishing the collection, preserves the region’s plant life to practically support research in all scientific fields that use plants in their studies, including pharmacological, chemical, and ecological research, among others. The biological collection began in 2013, with specimens collected by professors and students during field activities as part of Botany courses. "In 2014, the initiative to organize the collection emerged, aiming to document the flora of the border region, which remains largely unknown except for small records from Iguaçu National Park," Villagra explains. Through the Virtual Herbarium of the Flora and Fungi of Brazil, users can access registered species, collection locations, the collectors’ names, and soon, digitalized plant and flower images, along with other scientific data. The Realeza Biological Collection currently contains digitized specimens and available online.

Com 1.161 amostras de plantas, o herbário da Universidade Federal da Fronteira Sul (UFFS) - Campus Realeza é um dos mais recentes a integrar a rede de coleções on-line do INCT Herbário Virtual da Flora e dos Fungos do Brasil. As amostras foram coletadas em 26 municípios da região Sudoeste do Paraná e agora estão disponíveis de forma livre e aberta pela plataforma virtual que abriga coleções biológicas nacionais e internacionais. O Herbário Real, projeto de pesquisa responsável pela constituição da coleção, armazena a vida vegetal da região para fomentar, de maneira prática, pesquisas relacionadas a todas as áreas da ciência que utilizam plantas em seus estudos, como estudos farmacológicos, químicos, ecológicos, entre outros. A coleção biológica iniciou em 2013, sendo as coletas realizadas por professores e estudantes durante atividades práticas a campo para atender os componentes curriculares de Botânica. "Em 2014, surgiu o interesse em organizar a coleção, permitindo referenciar a flora da região de fronteira que é desconhecida exceto por pequenas informações do Parque Nacional do Iguaçu", explica Villagra. Pelo Herbário Virtual da Flora e dos Fungos do Brasil é possível verificar as espécies cadastradas, o local onde foram coletadas, o responsável pela coleta e, em breve, será possível visualizar a planta ou as flores digitalizadas, além de outros dados científicos. A Coleção Biológica Realeza possui materiais informatizados e disponibilizados on-line.
