The Herbarium of the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná began in the 1970s through the initiative of professors Rudolf Bruno Lange and Estefano Francisco Jablonski, who founded the Museum of Biology at the Catholic University of Paraná in 1973. As the zoological and botanical collections grew, they were separated, and in April 1979, the HUCP Herbarium was established. However, it was only in 1999 that it moved to its current location. Today, the herbarium houses over 26,500 specimens and more than 4,800 species of algae, fungi, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms, and angiosperms, distributed across 2,300 genera and 400 families. These specimens were collected by more than 5,000 individuals across 21 Brazilian states and 12 different countries.

O Herbário da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná começou na década de 1970 por iniciativa dos professores Rudolf Bruno Lange e Estefano Francisco Jablonski que, em 1973 fundaram o Museu de Biologia da Universidade Católica do Paraná. Como o crescimento das coleções Zoológica e Botânica elas foram separadas e em abril de 1979 foi fundado o herbário HUCP, mas apenas em 1999 passou a ocupar o espaço atual. Atualmente o herbário abriga mais de 26.500 exemplares e mais de 4.800 espécies de algas, fungos, briófitas, pteridófitas, gimnospermas e angiospermas, em 2.300 gêneros e 400 famílias, coletadas por mais de 5000 pessoas em 21 estados do Brasil e 12 diferentes países.
