Description

The collection of the Municipal Botanical Museum (MBM) in Curitiba, Paraná, consists of 430,000 specimens, making it one of the largest herbaria in Brazil and the most extensive collection of southern Brazilian flora. This scientific collection is properly cataloged and identified by leading specialists, serving as a resource for students and researchers in botany and related fields. MBM operates a duplicate exchange program, maintaining collaborations with national and international institutions. Currently, it holds around 2,800 nomenclatural types, and its collection grows by approximately 7,000 new specimens annually. In addition to the exchange program, MBM also provides loans of herbarium specimens for master's theses and doctoral dissertations to researchers in Brazil and abroad. Recognized for its scientific significance, the MBM collection is accredited as a Faithful Depository Institution for Genetic Heritage Components by the Genetic Heritage Management Council (CGEN). It is also internationally acknowledged as a key reference for the Flora of Paraná and Flora of Brazil 2020 projects. #-------------------- O acervo do Museu Botânico Municipal (MBM) de Curitiba, Paraná, é composto por 430.000 amostras, sendo considerado um dos maiores herbários do país e o maior da flora sul brasileira. É um acervo científico devidamente catalogado e identificado pelos mais conceituados especialistas, tendo como público alvo estudantes e pesquisadores das áreas botânicas e afins. Apresenta um programa de permuta de duplicatas de material botânico, mantendo intercâmbio com instituições congêneres nacionais e internacionais. Possui, atualmente, cerca de 2.800 typus nomenclaturais. Anualmente o acervo é incrementado em cerca de 7.000 novos espécimes. Além do programa de permutas de duplicatas, ainda promove o empréstimo de exsicatas para dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado, para pesquisadores brasileiros e de instituições fora do Brasil. A coleção do Museu Botânico Municipal é reconhecida por sua importância, estando credenciada como Instituição Fiel Depositária de Componentes do Patrimônio Genético junto ao (CGEN). É reconhecida internacionalmente, sendo referência para os projetos Flora do Estado do Paraná e Flora do Brasil 2020.

A coleção do MBM é composta principalmente por plantas oriundas dos biomas Cerrado e Mata Atlântica. Possui um acervo significativo da flora dos estados do Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso e Mato Grosso do Sul.
