Description
The PEL Herbarium is committed to maintaining properly preserved plant specimens, establishing itself as a permanent and continuously expanding biological collection. It is available for consultation by the scientific community and researchers, while also supporting teaching, research, and outreach activities. The herbarium’s objectives include studying and conserving flora and promoting exchanges with national and international herbaria. Its activities contribute to human resource training and encourage scholars from various scientific fields, as well as the general public, to recognize the strategic importance of herbaria for science and environmental conservation. The Herbarium of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) was established in 1946 by botanist Brother Teodoro Luis, who started a plant collection within the Botany Section of the former Southern Agronomic Institute (IAS). In 1975, through an agreement, the herbarium was transferred from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) to UFPel, where it has since been under the responsibility of the Department of Botany at the Institute of Biology/UFPel. The herbarium is registered in the Index Herbariorum under the acronym PEL and is also part of the Brazilian Network of Herbaria and the State Herbarium Network. The collection comprises approximately 27,000 specimens, making it the fourth-largest plant collection in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It houses regional flora specimens as well as others obtained from various private collections, collection efforts by local and visiting researchers, donations, and exchanges.

Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 12,337 records.
2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.
